Dr. Kalesnykas has extensive research experience in eye research and neuroscience developing neuronal based projects at the University of Eastern Finland and The Wilmer Eye Institute, The Johns Hopkins University, MD, USA. He brings his experience to the team as a consultant and contract researcher to several international companies in the area of histology, immunohistochemistry, stereology and ocular models.
Simon Kaja, PhD

Dr. Kaja is an internationally recognized expert in experimental ophthalmology and neuroscience and regular consultant to both pharma and biotech companies. He has published over 35 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Dr. Kaja still maintains an active academic research program at the Loyola University Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology, where he serves as Assistant Professor; Dr John P & Therese E Mulcahy Endowed Professor in Ophthalmology.

Jenni J. Hakkarainen, PhD
Director R&D Operations
Dr. Hakkarainen has a strong research background in ex vivo and in vitro drug permeability testing and prediction of drug transport across biological barriers, such as cornea, blood-brain barrier, intestine, and skin. She contributes many years’ experience working with in vitro cell culture, using primary endothelial and secondary epithelial cells and glioma cell lines. Dr. Hakkarainen received her Ph.D. in biopharmacy from the University of Eastern Finland.
Tamuna Bolkvadze, PhD

Dr. Bolkvadze is an accomplished neuroscientist with an extensive research experience in electrophysiology, animal behaviour and neuroscience-based disease models. Previously Dr. Bolkvadze was a post-doctoral fellow at the A.I.Virtanen Institute for Molecular Sciences, University of Eastern Finland. Dr. Bolkvadze has more than 20 peer-reviewed publications in the fields of traumatic brain injury and epileptogenesis.
Satu Mering, PhD, Docent
Director Laboratory Animal Research
Dr. Mering has over 20 years’ experience in the area of laboratory animal science, especially animal welfare. She received her Ph.D. in Applied Zoology from the University of Eastern Finland. Dr. Mering has broad regulatory expertise and serves as member on both the National Experimental Animal Board and the National Committee of the Council on the Protection of Animals Used for Scientific or Educational purposes. She has an excellent track-record in educating and training scientists at all levels in the use and care of laboratory animals. Dr. Mering will continue to serve as Chairperson of the Finnish Laboratory Animal Science Association (FinLAS).
